Tiger Brands is making strides in its commitment to environmental sustainability and economic empowerment through its partnership with Fibre Circle’s Zithande Mzansi initiative. This program focuses on enhancing recycling education within schools in the Gauteng region, particularly targeting communities in Katlehong and Vosloorus. So far, five schools, including Ikusasalethu Primary and Polokegong Primary, have been onboarded to the initiative, which not only enriches environmental education but also supports income generation for local small and medium-sized waste management enterprises (SMMEs).

The Zithande Mzansi programme provides participating schools with essential resources, such as colourful recycling bins and educational materials that align with the national curriculum. Through this initiative, students are taught to not only collect and sort recyclable waste, but also to sell it to local buy-back centers, enabling schools to receive rebates that they can reinvest into various projects. This approach benefits the students educationally while simultaneously fostering a culture of responsibility towards the environment.
