Their fight for equality began in 2016, motivated by their daughter Ishika's dream of playing football. Faced with immense societal pressure, they took a bold step: quitting their jobs and selling their gold to ensure their daughter could pursue her passion.
The Birth of A Football Revolution
Against a backdrop of skepticism and disapproval, the couple established the Shyamnagar Unite Adivasi Football Academy. Here, girls, once barred from the pitch, now lace up their cleats and participate in rigorous training. Raju challenged local norms with a simple yet powerful statement: “If my daughter can play, why can’t yours?” This declaration not only opened doors for their daughter but significantly transformed the village’s outlook towards female sports participation.

Today, around 80 girls train in Shyamnagar and an additional 20 in the neighboring Bhandarhati area. This initiative has fundamentally altered societal dynamics, with parents who once restricted their daughters now encouraging them to join the training. Raju and Lalita’s project has celebrated success at regional levels, with girls competing in high-stakes tournaments, including the prestigious Subroto Cup.
