How One Person’s ‘Idleness’ Became a Beacon of Hope
In a world often driven by hustle and bustle, Sarbjeet Singh Bobby, affectionately dubbed ‘Vela’ by local residents of Shimla, illustrates that true impact lies not in mere activity but in meaningful service. Despite his humble beginnings and dropping out of school due to financial constraints, Bobby turned what many saw as idleness into an extraordinary commitment to humanitarian work.
Bobby’s journey began with organizing blood donation camps at a local gurdwara, a mission that evolved into a lifelong purpose. Over the last two decades, he has collected over 30,000 units of blood, accounting for nearly 60% of Himachal Pradesh’s blood supply. It is this spirit of service that speaks volumes about his character. “I am thankful the almighty made me vela so I could spend my time serving humanity,” he shared.
A Dedication Beyond Duty
His commitment does not stop at blood donation. Faced with a crisis where contracted drivers refused to transport bodies, Bobby personally ferried more than 5,000 deceased individuals, including the unclaimed, ensuring they receive a dignified farewell. His motto is clear: everyone deserves respect in life and death.
In response to the dire needs of patients traveling from remote areas to hospitals in Shimla, Bobby founded Almighty Blessings NGO, which now operates free canteens offering hot meals to those in need. He initiated 22 roti banks, engaging hundreds of families in preparing daily meals for patients. “Initial funding came from my pocket, but the community now supports this cause,” he noted.
Turning Tragedy into Triumph
When natural disasters struck his community, Bobby's efforts intensified. During the recent floods in Seraj and Kullu, he mobilized resources, raising over ₹1 crore to provide essential aid such as rice, dal, and blankets to families affected by the disaster. Bobby’s story encapsulates a profound truth: what may seem like idleness can become an engine of empathy and support, driving communities to rally together during times of need.
Lessons in Leadership and Community Impact
For entrepreneurs, his journey offers valuable lessons: the power of service, the importance of community, and how one person’s dedication can spark significant change. As they navigate their success stories, Bobby’s example encourages professionals to view their initiatives through the lens of community impact. Investing time in service doesn’t just uplift others; it enriches one’s life, fostering deep connections and fulfilling our shared human experience.
