Generosity that Transforms Workplace Culture
In a heartwarming tribute to their dedicated team, Jeff Dinnebeil and Megan Lingsweiler, co-owners of The Standard restaurant in Toledo, Ohio, treated their staff to a lavish three-day cruise to the Bahamas at the end of a bustling holiday season. Recognizing that their employees are the "lifeblood" of the business, the couple sought a unique way to show appreciation and reward them for their hard work.
Inspired by their own family cruise the previous year, the couple decided to take their entire staff on the trip, which included not only current employees but also loyal patrons and former staff members. The itinerary featured stops at Nassau and Bimini, along with a plethora of onboard activities like karaoke nights, scavenger hunts, and group dinners, further helping to strengthen bonds among the team members.
A Glimpse into a Remarkable Initiative
This generous initiative was not just about a vacation; it was about creating lasting memories and fostering camaraderie among the restaurant's employees. For many, like Andrew Jackson, a cook at The Standard, it was a life-changing experience. Having never flown or been on a cruise before, Jackson described his feelings of nervousness before the trip, but ultimately expressed gratitude for the experience that transformed co-workers into family.
"Everybody went on there as employees, and when we left and went back home, everybody was like family," Jackson shared. This sentiment was echoed by other staff, such as server Allison Latta, who described the vacation as "probably my top vacation" due to the unique experience of sharing it with her colleagues.
A Commitment to Employee Well-Being
Dinnebeil and Lingsweiler credited their restaurant's success to their hardworking team, reinforcing their commitment to employee recognition. Each staff member received holiday bonuses in addition to the cruise, and the restaurant closed during the trip so no one would be left behind. This thoughtful approach has drawn positive attention in the community, highlighting the benefits of prioritizing employee satisfaction in the business landscape.
