The story begins when 17-year-old Navya Goenka, following a personal health scare, ignited her curiosity about what goes into the food we consume. Teaming up with her classmates—Aayush Anand, Gaurvica Gupta, and Simayah Jhingran—Navya founded Agroventure, a project designed to optimize fertilizer use through real-time soil analysis.
Under the mentorship of Mr. Nimesh, a dedicated computer science teacher, the students initiated their project in April 2023. They conducted field visits to rural areas, including Manesar and Kadarpur, where they closely observed farmers applying fertilizers without understanding the specific needs of their soil. “Crops do not wait for reports,” says Gaurvica. This experience underscored the vital gap in agricultural knowledge that they aimed to fill.

The result of their hard work, the Mati Rakshak, is a handheld IoT soil testing device coupled with the bilingual Agroww app. Together, they provide farmers with immediate readings of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels—three essential nutrients for plant growth. The device utilizes advanced sensors and a Bluetooth-enabled microcontroller to relay data directly to the farmers, helping them make informed decisions on fertilizer usage.
As Gaurvica explains, the design of the app ensures that it is user-friendly, allowing farmers to quickly input parameters about their crops and receive tailored recommendations.
